Advent and the third shoe

A time to wait

Last April I wrote a post on here entitled ‘Easter and the second shoe’. It described how my wife had been diagnosed with cancer for the second time, with the news breaking just before Easter. Many have visited the post, and the call it issued for defiant hope seems to have struck a chord.

Yesterday, with Christmas just around the corner, we heard that the cancer had returned. As advent reaches its crescendo of hope and anticipation, we have been told that the New Year will bring more surgery and chemotherapy too. As before, this news assumes its perspective in the context of a wider and deeper hope. At Christmas we celebrate that the Lord who came will come again, and that light is never eclipsed by the darkness. If you like to pray, then your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

May peace and hope be with you this Christmas.

  1. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Richard, I’m praying this amazing message of hope for you and your wife.
    God bless you,
    John

  2. Only the other day my daughter told me a lovely story – A little girL said to her – ‘There is there is glitter all over the floor – why is there glitter all over the floor.
My daughter thought hard, the little girl was only three years old and my daughter said ‘ I think Father Christmas may be on his way and stopped off here to visit this hall’
The liitle girl was so excited and said I hope he visits me.
Now this story was in your hall – My daughter teaches dance in your church hall –
This little girl was so happy with the reply of hope and it was with love that my daughter gave her reply –
I pray for you and your wife and likewise send peace and hope to you.
